CHOIR
Choral music at Westminster reflects the continuous change and diversity within the United Church. This tradition of excellent choral music is represented at every service at Westminster, whether you’re singing along to an old battle axe of a hymn, or listening to an anthem composed by a leading Canadian composer, you can be sure to find a musical home here.
The 35-40 member choir (including four soloists) sing every Sunday, September through June. On top of their duties on a normal Sunday, the choir also sings at the Christmas Eve service, and the Good Friday service. Over the years, the choir has presented a number of anthems, oratorios, requiems, and cantatas that come from a wide swath of musical eras and genres. Come and check us out, and be apart of this exciting and changing aspect of worship at Westminster.
If you are interested in joining the choir, would like to purchase a recording, or would like more information, please contact the church office.
New Senior Choir rehearsal times: Thursdays, 7:00 p.m to 8:30 p.m in the Lecture Hall.
The Children’s Choir practices on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the Concert Hall.

Hello Amy! The new voice you will hear today is that of Amy Carlson, our new Junior Musician Choral Scholar! Amy is currently in 11th grade at Kelvin High School, and she looks forward to studying music after she graduates. Her work at Kelvin has led to several unique performances, including singing with the Winnipeg Symphony in a production of Carmina Burana last year under the direction of Alexander Mickelthwate, and Elroy Friesen. Amy does more than just sing, she also has her grade six piano, and has participated in the Winnipeg Music Festival several years running (ask her what happened last year!). We are all very excited to have Amy with us in the choir, and look forward to her singing with us for as long as she can.

ORGAN
Casavant Freres, Opus 481
“In 1912, Westminster United Church installed a large four manual, 49 stop Casavant Organ in its new building. This organ, modified with a new console and several additional ranks in 1951, as well as a tonal revision in 1985, is the grandest organ in Winnipeg in the Romantic tonal tradition. For this reason it has served as the location for many concerts and recitals by local players and world-renowned organ virtuosos over the years.” (The Organ in Manitoba James B. Hartman) For organ concerts, such as the Westminster Concert Organ Series, the choir screens are removed providing superb sight lines to the console. The organ presently has 54 ranks in a wonderful acoustic setting.
